The short version
- No accounts, no sign-ups. You can browse this whole site without telling us anything.
- No cookies or trackers. We don't run analytics, advertising pixels, or tracking cookies on this site.
- We only know what you send us. If you email us, we use your message to reply. That's it.
- We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
What we collect
This policy covers the Shiny Whale Games website and any correspondence you have with us by email. Shiny Whale Games is an independent studio based in Canada, and we are responsible for the personal information described here.
Information you choose to send us
When you email us at support@shinywhalegames.com, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, the contents of your message, and any attachments (for example, a screenshot of a tricky level). We only receive what you decide to send.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, the servers that host this site may automatically record basic technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type, device type, the page you requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the request. These server logs are used only to keep the site running, diagnose problems, and protect it from abuse. We don't use them to build profiles of visitors.
What we don't collect
This website has no user accounts, no sign-up forms, no comment sections, and no payment pages. We don't use cookies, analytics tools, or advertising trackers, and we don't store anything in your browser.
Third-party services
Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site are loaded from Google Fonts. When your browser downloads them, Google receives your IP address and standard browser information. Google Fonts doesn't set cookies. For details, see Google's Fonts privacy FAQ and the Google Privacy Policy.
Links to other platforms. This site links to places where you can follow or support our work, including Steam (to wishlist or buy One Line Wonder), Discord, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. Nothing is shared with these platforms just because you visit our site. Once you follow a link, though, you're on their service, and their own privacy policies apply. For example, wishlists and purchases on Steam are handled by Valve under the Steam Privacy Policy, and we don't receive your payment details.
How we use it
We use the information described above to:
- reply to your questions, feedback, bug reports, and press or collaboration inquiries;
- improve our games, for example by fixing a bug you reported or rethinking a puzzle you found unfair;
- keep this website secure, available, and working properly; and
- meet our legal obligations.
We will never use your information for advertising, and we will never add you to a mailing list you didn't ask to join.
When we share it
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share it in these limited cases:
- Service providers who help us operate, such as our email provider and website host. They process information on our behalf and only for that purpose.
- Legal reasons, when the law, a court order, or a valid government request requires it, or when it's needed to protect the rights, safety, or property of our players, ourselves, or others.
- With your permission. For example, if you send us a lovely note and we'd like to quote it, we'll ask first.
How long we keep it
We keep email correspondence for as long as it's useful for helping you or following up on what you reported, and delete it when it's no longer needed. You can ask us to delete your messages sooner at any time. Server logs are kept only for as long as our hosting provider needs them for security and operations.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@shinywhalegames.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or your local data protection authority if you live in the EU or UK.
Children
We want our games to be something families can share, and this website is suitable for all ages. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required where you live). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we'll delete it promptly.
Security & storage
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, and we limit access to people who need it to answer you. No method of sending or storing data over the internet is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
We're based in Canada, but some of our service providers may store or process information in other countries, including the United States. When that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, for example if a future game adds online features, we'll update this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll make it clear on this site.
